What: Ground-up design of the HVAC and plumbing systems for a new senior housing facility located in Metlakatla, Alaska.

Why: The Metlakatla Indian Community (MIC) wanted to create a space for the elderly to call home, one that is deeply connected to their community and traditions.

How: Created a to-scale model of Metlakatla Senior Housing building in IES VE software to simulate building heat gains due to site location, building constructions, mechanical and electrical equipment, lighting, and occupants

Results: Analyzed ApacheHVAC results to accurately size Dedicated Outdoor Air System (DOAS) and Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) units, and presented the schematic HVAC design to client for feasibility.
