Sacramento Waterfront

What: As a mechanical engineering intern at Stantec, I collaborated in a cross-functional team of 7 Buildings interns across North America to deliver a schematic design proposal to the City of Sacramento for the Sacramento Waterfront.

Why: The Sacramento Waterfront, located less than a mile away from the State Capitol and next to the Sacramento River, has great potential for development opportunities. It is an ideal place for people to spend time with friends and loved ones, and stop by on their next road trip.

How: Our team of architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical interns worked together to fully develop the building concept completely from scratch. Referencing the architectural model, I performed heat load calculations in IES VE by utilizing data on local solar radiation, occupancy, and appliances. This allowed us to properly size the ventilation equipment in accordance with ASHRAE 90.1 2019, ensuring that rooms would be at comfortable temperatures for occupants.

Results: At the end of the summer, we presented our final proposal to the City of Sacramento.
